Calling All Minority Businesses to do Business
Posted  2/10/2009

hublogoTYLER—A workshop for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs) is planned for Tuesday February 10 and Wednesday February 11 at the University of Texas at Tyler’s Ornelas Activity Center. The center is located at 3402 Old Omen Road in Tyler, and is free, sponsored by The Texas Department of Transportation. The seminar will begin on Tuesday at 9:30am and on Wednesday at 8:30 am.
Attend this seminar to discover tools to help your business flourish and introduce your products and services to state purchasers. You will also receive additional tips on building relationships with potential bidders and learn more about the HUB Report.
·        A Historically Underutilized Business is at least 51% owned by an Asian Pacific American, Black American, Hispanic American, Native American and/or American woman,
·        is an entity with its principal place of business in Texas, and
·        has an owner residing in Texas with a proportionate interest that actively participates in the control, operations and management of the entity’s affairs.
The statewide HUB Program facilitates the use of HUBs in state procurement and provides information on the state’s procurement process to minority and woman- owned businesses.
The Texas State Comptroller’s Office helps companies by:
·        Providing education and outreach to minority and woman-owned businesses regarding the Statewide HUB Program and its initiatives (read the Fiscal 2008 HUB Outreach and Education report, PDF, 2.4MB)
·        Administering the certification and compliance functions for the Statewide HUB Program,
·        Assisting state agencies and institutions of higher education with training, planning, and implementing HUB education and outreach efforts,
·        Developing and administering HUB rules and statute to ensure full and equal access to state procurement opportunities for minority and woman-owned businesses, and
·        Compiling and reporting, to the Legislature, the State’s HUB expenditures and contract awards semi-annually.
